Sculpt and Cast - 28mm seated figures

I wanted some extra figures to put in my row boats to represent other armies troops; decided to have a go at sculpting some, which came out reasonably well. The masters...

I  made up a mould and cast up about 15 of each figure, enough for my immediate needs. Some sample castings
the mould works fine each time but the castings are beset by 'bubbles' and take a while to clean up.  All-in-all some useful basic sitting figures. Have used up my supply of metal so I will have to accumulate some more before the next major phase in mould making and casting.

40mm - Trial casts from new mould..

Finally got the next 18C mould done,  the contents were
-weapons (sabre, straight sword, pistol, 17C musket and 18C musket)
    -march attack musketeer
    -alternate grenadier & fusilier heads.

Initial casts weren't too good, but the addition of some air vents solved the problems, some trial casts
the heads don't come out with full detail every time; will do some more and see how it goes - overall I'm pleased with the results.

    progress with 40mm home-cast figures ...(2)

I've been working on the 18c 40mm infantry masters and have finished the initial work.

There is still some work to do to tidy them up before they go into a mould. I may just have the fusilier and grenadier heads on their own so I can swap them with the musketer's.

I'm currently planning what goes into moulds based on the number of figures I anticipate I'll need; a figure which I only cast a few will have to share a mould with one which I'll cast 25+;  this will reduce the number moulds which are not used very much.

The figure master I'm working on at the moment - a dragoon

Brother James makes a new friend ...

Gerald was not happy living in the Sackwald forest. He didn't fit in, not looking like the rest of his family and relations. So he decided to leave for a bit and explore the world outside the forest...

After travelling about for a few weeks he ended up at Wittenberg palace. He walked up from the main gate and towards the entrance, he stopped to say hello to the palace cats ...
then he went up the steps and into the main hall, the doorway with guards looked interesting ...
He waited for a bit and then when some people went through the doors he walked confidently through behind them.  He wandered about a bit exploring the rooms ...

The King and Brother James were in the library, examining and putting away new acquisitions. Brother James was looking for the right place to put 'Codpieces in History' by Iver Biggen. The King was somewhat distracted by a shimmer of light by the window.
The King wondered if it might be an invisible of some form, he relaxed and squinted somewhat at the shimmer (as he had been taught by his great Aunt when he as a youth), concentrating hard for a minute or so he started to see something and then shimmer changed into something visible.  The King said 'Good Day sir''. Gerald was somewhat taken a-back, people could only see him if he wanted them to or if they had the sight.  He hesitated for a moment then introduced himself ..

Gerald told the king of decision to explore the world outside the forest. Gerald explained that he was from a family of pooka's who traditionally took the form of a 8ft white rabbit when they made themselves visible; however he was unable to do so and always ended up looking something like a snowman (some say it was because there was a strand of ice-sprite in the family)

After a long friendly chat with Gerald the King decided that he could stay about the palace provided that he did not cause any mischief. He introduced him to Brother James and put him in his charge, with the proviso to be invisible to all but the King and Brother James.

Gerald went with Brother James to his rooms where they had a good chat and a glass of sherry; they got on famously, so they decided to go into Wittenberg for the evening ...
where they had a great time. Gerald enjoyed himself and decided to stay around and spend some more time with his new friend Brother James .......
